Image-basedgaitanalysisasameansofbiometricidentificationhasattractedmuchresearchattention.Mostoftheexistingmethodsfocusonhumanidentification,postureanalysisandmovementtracking.Therehavebeenfewinvestigationsonmeasuringthecarriedloadbasedonthecarrier'sgaitcharacteristicsbyautomaticimageprocessing.Nevertheless,thismeasurementisveryusefulinanumberofapplications,suchasthestudyofthecarriedloadontheposturaldevelopmentofchildrenandadolescence.Inthispaper,weinves-tigatehowtoautomaticallyestimatethecarriedweightfromasequenceofimages.Wepresentamethodtoextracthumangaitsilhouettebasedonanobservationthathumanstendtominimizetheenergyduringmotion.Weputeseveralanglesofbodyleaninganddeter-minetherelationshipofthecarriedweight,theleaninganglesandthecentroidlocationaccordingtoahumankiicstudy.Ourweightdeterminationmethodhasbeenverifiedsuccessfullybyexperiments.
